As Summer is upon us, it is time to take on the seasonal cleaning. Unlike what you think, we are talking about a Summer cleaning that involves your skin. Yes, you read that right!
Winter and Spring can be quite rough on your face with the harsh wind, the extreme cold, then the sudden change in temperature/heat, and even the extra makeup (due to the lack of summer glow during both seasons). That being said, it is time to bring your skin back to life; give it a boost it needs to start off Summer: A good detox !
Why should I take on a skin detox? You may ask. Well, as we know our skin is the largest organ of our body and acts as a shield to us when it comes to sun rays, pollution, dirt, etc. We often take it for granted but our skin truly works in amazing ways. Having said that, our skin is sadly subject to impurities on a daily basis, such as bacteria, dirt, pollution and much more. Therefore, it is up to us to treat it kindly and to allow it to regain its glow. This recovery process of detox will not only help you get your fresh radiant skin back, but it will eliminate the unwanted zits, pores and redness that may result from exposure and other factors such as stress.
What are the signs that you may need to undergo a detox? You may notice slight changes in your skin. Keep in mind that there are many different skin types, therefore signs may vary between individuals. The signs may include, but are not limited to; oiliness, extreme sensitivity, uneven tones, dryness and breakouts. Luckily, our skin let us know when it needs a little extra help, all we must do is listen.
Now that you have decided that you want to take on a skin detox, what do you need to know and where do you even begin? Before you take on any action, it is important to start with the right mindset; a skin detox will not fix anything over night, it will require time, dedication and open mindedness. Please do not get frustrated when you skin isn’t at its best shape when you want it to; it works wonders without you even noticing it! Learn to love your imperfections before and take this recovery process as an act of love and appreciation. Also, bear in mind that it may take many different steps to give your skin the radiance you want, any single step is already a good start but we do recommend going the extra mile if you want to notice an amelioration. That being said, we have designed a step by step routine to take on every morning and night for a full week (please refer to Part 2 of the detox for the night routine). We have altered it to function with different skin type, therefore you will have a list of products to choose from in function of your own skin type.
We start with a simple morning skincare routine; nothing out of the ordinary, yet extremely effective! We emphasize the importance of a proper morning skincare routine due to its ability to create a shield over our skin to prepare us for the day ahead. Sweat, pollution and dirt are some of the many adversaries that our skin has to battle throughout the day, and the help of our morning routine it makes it just a bit easier to conquer! So, what weapons/products should you use to win the battle? Let’s dive in!

AM routine:
STEP 1: Awaken
Begin by rinsing your face with cool water. This step is simply to wake up and extra boost aside or instead of coffee.
STEP 2: Warm up
Then, switch your water temperature to lukewarm or warm. Once more rinse your face. This step will allow your pores to open and prepared for the following step.
STEP 3: Cleanse and Prepare
Next up, it is time to cleanse your skin. Bear in mind, morning cleansing has a specific purpose; starting your day with a fresh, awake and radiant face. For that, it will be crucial to choose the appropriate cleanser for your skin!
In the case of dry skin, you do not want to use a drying cleanser as it would only aggravate your condition and even cause irritation and redness. Having said this, we recommend milk cleansers or something of similar texture. They are simply amazing for dry skin since they do not strip your skin of its oils and simply leave it clean and soft.
On the other hand, for oily skin, we recommend a lighter texture such as gel. Something not to heavy or rich that could imbalance the skin; this will also avoid any extra oils that could clog pores and worsen acne states.
Lastly, if you have a combination of both dry and oily skin, we recommend trying both kind of cleansers and see what works better for you or even alternate as both can give you great benefits. Below, we have attached a list of natural cleansers for both skin type.

STEP 4: Hydrate, Hydrate and Protect
We, then, follow cleansing by hydration.
If there is one step we urge to never neglect; it is this one!
Moisturising your skin is extremely important and goes beyond just the exterior appearance. In fact, by moisturising, not only are you allowing the outer layer of skin to protect you from irritants but you are also hydrating the deeper layers underneath.
In this step, we encourage you to proceed with a serum, a moisturising cream and a sunscreen. This combination of products allows your skin to really receive the care it needs and deserves while remaining protected from UVs.
Please take note that moisturising is important for every skin type (yes...even oily skin!) and as previously, it will be important to choose the right products for your skin. Hydrating products for dry skin, balancing products for oily skin and a mix of both for combination skin. Refer to the list below for examples of products that are best for your skin type.

STEP 5: Treat your body
Lastly, drink lots of water and try to maintain a clean diet. This step may seem a bit less head on, yet it is one not to underestimate. In fact, the food we digest is broken down to vitamins, amino-acids and minerals that act just as skin food. Therefore, whatever you put in your body will show exteriorly, so if you treat it right (eat clean and stay hydrated), it will thank you with clear looking skin.
To summarize it all, here are all the simple and easy steps for your lovely morning routine:
Step 1: Rinse your face with cool water for a proper morning wake up.
Step 2:Turn the heat of your water to warm or lukewarm and rinse again to prepare for Step 3.
Step 3: For a fresh, awake and radiant face, proceed by cleansing your face. Do not forget to use an appropriate cleanser for your own skin type as it will help to absorb any further products.
Step 4: Hydrate, hydrate and protect! Before heading out or applying your makeup, apply both serum and moisturiser to soften and feed your skin, then proceed with a facial sunscreen to protect it from UV rays.
Step 5: Drink lots of water throughout your day and try to maintain a clean diet.
